About Amelia

Where did I study?

I have been studying visual art for over fifteen years. As a child, I was classically trained by author-illustrator Robert Florczak. In 2024, I graduated from the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) with a BFA in Visual Arts. I chose to study at CalArts because of their interdisciplinary curriculum, which allows students to craft a personalized syllabus that best suits their artistic interests. I decided to pursue animation because I've always loved telling stories, and there's nothing more exciting than seeing your characters and worlds come to life on screen. I made a point of taking classes on color theory, costume design, 3D modeling, anatomy and screenwriting to give myself a solid foundation for becoming a concept artist. I also trained in stop-motion puppetry with Stephen Chiodo.

While attending CalArts, I piloted an exchange program with Falmouth University, connecting our animation departments. This was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. At Falmouth, I worked on a variety of independent short films and small commercial projects, and met a group of artists who have become lifelong friends and colleagues. I learned the value of artistic collaboration, and gained experience as a director.

What can I bring to your studio or project?

Passion, ingenuity and a whole lot of personality. While I mostly work as a concept artist, â€‹I'm constantly learning new techniques and acquiring skills. Because of my artistic versatility, I can bridge creative practices to produce distinctive projects catered to any client’s vision.

I still draw and paint with traditional mediums like gouache. I really believe there's an intangible special something about art that is created simply by putting a pen to paper. I also like to combine old school practices, such as hand-drawn animation, with emerging technologies. I love to innovate as much as I love to create.

What programs, mediums and art practices do I have experience with?

I have experience with ZBrush, TVPaint, Dragonframe, Photoshop and a variety of other digital programs. I use a Canon EOS RP to shoot stop-motion. My favorite traditional mediums are gouache and ink.
